Abstract
The aim of this study was to increase lamb production with a three lambing in two years program in the sheep herd of Gavdasht National Research Station. 120 ewes were randomly divided into two groups, control, and treatment, with 60 ewes in each, after determining their body condition score and their health status. Nutritional management was the same, and the only difference was in the implementation of a non-reproduction season mating program (with hormone therapy) for the treatment group. After parturition, lambing rate, prolificacy rate, number of lambs born, birth weight, lamb sex, fecundity rate, BLC, weaning rate, weaning weight, WLC, and lamb survival rates were recorded. The results showed that lambing rate, lambing percentage, and weaning rate were higher in the treatment group. The lambing rate, birth weight, BLC, male lambing rate, and weaning rate for the first mating were higher than the others. The net income of the treatment group was higher than the control group. According to the results of the present study, hormone therapy in ewes out of reproduction season, along with the use of reproductive aid tools to manage herd reproduction, in addition to being able to focus on lambing at a certain time of year and make manage the herd easier for the farmer, it is also cost-effective and can reduce additional maintaining costs.
