Abstract | ||
This present study was conducted in order to investigate the use of steam treated sugarcane in the diet of fattening lambs in two farms. Experimental lambs were the Afshari breed with the age of 5-6 months in 27-34kg weight range that were selected in both farms and divided into two homogeneous groups of 15 heads in each. The fodder of the control treatments were alfalfa and straw, but in the experimental treatment, steam treated pith was used. The results of the T-test showed that in both farms, there were no significant different in growth performance (ADG and final body weight) among the lambs that were fed by sugarcane pith with the lambs were fed by alfalfa and wheat straw as basal roughages diets (P> 0.05). Also, there were no digestive disorders and even mortality in the lambs of both treatments. In farm No. 1 the ADG and final body weight for the control group and lambs were fed by sugarcane pith were 208, 200 g/day and 50.550 and 50.074 kg, respectively (P> 0.05). In farm No. 2 the ADG and final body weight for the control group and lambs were fed by sugarcane pith were 211, 202 g/day and 52.660 and 53.440 kg, respectively (P> 0.05). The cost price of pith ration was lower in both farms. The use of steam treated of sugarcane pith up to 30% in the diet of fattening lambs was successfully carried out without any problems. | ||
