Abstract | ||
This study was carried out to investigate the crossbreeding of Afshari ewes with Romanov rams, and to compare the production performance of crossbred lambs up to weaning and persistence, in Markazi province. A total of 200 Afshar ewes which at least two months have been passed from their lambing date, were selected and were treated using estrus synchronization. Then, ewes were divided into two groups of 100 heads. Ewes of first group were inseminated using the Romanov Liquid sperm through Artificial insemination procedure. Ewes of second group were mated with same flock rams for two estrous cycles (34 days). Birth weight, weaning weight and lamb mortality rate were weighed in each group. Results indicated that pre-weaning mortality rate of Romanov-Afshari lambs and Afshari lambs were 2 and Zero percent, respectively. The Birth weight and weaning weight of Romanov-Afshari lambs and Afshari lambs were 3.1, 3.3 and 26.8, 28, and pre-weaning average daily gain of them were263 and 276 gr/day, respectively. The sum of weight of lambs born yield per mating ewes for Romanov-Afshari and Afshari group were 1.4 kg and 3.4 kg, respectively. The sum of weight weaned lambs crop per mating ewes for Romanov-Afshari and Afshari group were 11.5 kg and 28.8 kg, respectively. The results showed that the crossing of Afshari ewes with Romanov rams did not lead to the production of lambs with higher weight and therefore the crossing of these two breeds is not recommended for this purpose in the region. | ||
